The Abbey Road Less Traveled

It was a joy recording my next solo piano CD at Abbey Road Studios in London. Specifically in Studio 2, where The Beatles recorded.

While sitting on the piano bench in front of the beautiful Steinway D Concert Grand in Studio 2 - I looked down and noticed the floor. It was a yellowish herringbone-patterned wood floor that exuded character. If these floors could talk, they would have plenty to say.

In addition to my size 12's, I wondered how many shoes have walked across these floors? How many gifted souls walked down this recording path here before?

When I got back home from my recording session, I researched and saw a virtual hall of fame of recording artists who have walked on this herringbone floor before me. A partial list includes:

ABBA, Adam Ant, Adele, The Alan Parsons Project, The Beatles, Tony Bennett, Michael Bublé, Elvis Costello, Deep Purple, Ella Fitzgerald, Florence and the Machine, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Josh Groban, George Harrison, Iron Maiden, Elton John, Mick Jagger, Alicia Keys, Patti LaBelle, John Lennon, Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney, Meatloaf, Alanis Morissette, Olivia Newton-John, Itzhak Perlman, Pink Floyd, Queen, Rush, Peter Sellers (comedy), Ed Sheeran, Ringo Star, Sting, Taylor Swift, James Taylor, U2, Fats Waller, Amy Winehouse, Wings, Stevie Wonder and so many more

I always knew The Beatles created and recorded their hits in the fabled Studio 2. But it wasn't until I got home from recording that I looked at pictures of their recording sessions compared to mine. It turns out I was recording on hallowed ground. My piano was placed in the same space where The Beatles recorded. Major goosebumps!

I am not blogging these things to boost my ego - far from it - that is not who I am. Instead, I am posting it with the spirit of "can you believe how really cool this is?!!!"

I am thrilled to have the team I have to make this dream a reality and to walk down the Abbey Road floor less traveled.
